Friday, April 27
On Friday, April 27, at 7:00 p.m. Zoar Lutheran Church will close its 2017-2018 concert season with the rarely performed G. F. Handel oratorio, La Resurrezione (The Resurrection). This early masterpiece, from the pen of the twenty-two-year-old Händel, with an original libretto by Carlo Sigismondo Capece, is a musical work of genius. It was written for five soloists, choir, and orchestra. For our production, Denise Ritter-Bernardini will be the angel Gabriel; Sonia Perez, Mary Magdalene; Hillary La Bonte and Jennifer Braun will portray the roles of Mary of Cleopas and of St. John the Evangelist respectively, while Jamie Cordes will bring a veritable Lucifer to life.
If you love music or if you are at all interested in mysterious events that led to Easter Sunday, this oratorio will prove to be an almost too-good-to-be-true, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to hear this fantastic work live. So come join us as we bring to Perrysburg Handel’s superb testament of faith, performed as it was presented originally, on Easter Sunday of the year of our Lord 1708.
