Music & Arts
Carrying out our rich music heritage.
Zoar Lutheran is fortunate to have many talented instrumental and vocal soloists who perform for worship services. If you would like to share the gift of music with our congregation or are new to Zoar and have questions, please contact the church office at 419-874-4346. Let’s make music!
The Chancel Choir is Zoar’s most active vocal ensemble. The Chancel Choir has a vast and eclectic repertory ranging from Renaissance and Baroque to Gospel and Jazz. It also participates in Zoar’s concert series two or three times a year. We are always looking for new members. If you or someone you know loves to sing, please let us know, and we will find a way to work with whatever availability you may have. We always have seasonal and short-term projects that do not require a long-term commitment. The Chancel Choir sings regularly, typically rotating among our weekend services. Rehearsals are Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary. Please call the church office at 419-874-4346 for more information.
Young singers from 3rd grade onwards learn the rudiments of music and benefit from proper vocal instruction in this ensemble. Cantorei Jr. sings once a month (on average) and has special participation during our high holidays. This ensemble rehearses Sundays from 12:15 to 1:30 and Wednesdays from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. Please call the church office at 419-874-4346 for more information.
Zoar also enjoys the regular participation of Low Voiced and High Voiced Ensembles – along with mixed duets and trios –these smaller groups rehearse seasonally and perform at worship services for special occasions.
When in session, the Agape Handbell Choir adult enjoys playing a 5-octave set of Mallmark bells and a 3-octave set of chimes. Under normal circumstances, bells are heard monthly during Zoar’s worship. The Agape Bells can also be heard at community events and even weddings! Please call the church office at 419-874-4346 for information regarding rehearsal schedules and participation.
The Laudamus Recorder group is open to adults of all ages that delights in learning music from the Baroque period with occasional incursions into the twentieth century. Please call the church office at 419-874-4346 for information regarding rehearsal schedules and participation.
Zoar Lutheran has a long tradition of theatrical and multi-media productions: Jesus Christ Superstar, Joseph, Nunsense, Godspell, Images of Christmas, Noyes Fludde, Children of Eden, and more recently, Amal and the Night Visitors, and The Chronicles of Narnia, have been all done in-house. In addition, we enjoy an annual Sunday School Christmas program during our worship services, a young person’s Spring musical, and the occasional readers’ theatre. Biennial musical theater presentations (Stage-Ready Productions) have been a staple in our space, with young people from Zoar and the greater Perrysburg community participating.
Finally, the ensembles of Zoar, along with our musical guests, participate in several concerts a year as a form of outreach to our community. Our major concerts revolve around Christmas and Easter and echo the movement of the liturgical seasons in which they happen to be. We aim to connect with audiences of all ages. Check back often to learn more about upcoming in-person and virtual concerts!
